Tiger Woods complains about greens after woeful first round at the US Open.
After an amature putting exhibition, Tiger Woods, who scored a 74 three over par, had only one thing to say about the putting surface, ‘Awful’.
Tiger, who is know for his putting prowesqe, struggled with reading the infamously firm greens. He was quoted as saying, ”There’s no one making a lot of putts out there. No one is going low. You just can’t. [At least] the afternoon guys can’t. The morning guys have a chance. I’ve played, as I said, my practice rounds in the morning and the greens are smoother, but they’re still very firm.”
Woods’ disgust was easily explained – he played better from tee to green than he has done since his return from his self-induced hiatus only to fritter away his chances. His haste in blaming the elements was inexplicable, not least because the three co-leaders at the close of play had all, like Woods, teed off in the afternoon.
Phil Mikelson, who is favorite to take the title actually finished one shot worse than Woods, who scored the same as one of the other favorites Ian Poulter. The scores are very tight near the top so whatever happens, it should be a very exciting year for the US Open.
